History and the main activities:
Serbian Nutrition Society (SNS) was originally formed in 1956. After political and geographical changes of ex-Yugoslavia new SNS was established again in 2008.
Description of main activities:
SNS is registered as an independent non-profit society which main goal is education and information following approach of translating science into practice. Traditionally, SNS has been gathering established experts and young ones from human and veterinary medicine, pharmacy, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, agriculture, food technology, food microbiology and others with the similar interests. The activities of the society are not influenced by economic or political stakeholders.
International activities:
Member of the International Union of Nutritional Scieneces (IUNS) from 2010
Member of the Federation European Nutritional Societies (FENS) from 2012.
Important events:
Annual Meetings of Nutritionists: 25 annual scientific seminars from 1989 to 2019 and every four years a congress on nutrition. In 2018 and in 2019 SNS, together with the University School of Pharmacy- Belgrade and FENS successfully organized s five-day summers schools for young European experts in nutrition with internationally recognized lecturers. General title of the summer school was „Translating science into the recommendations for development Food Based Dietary Guidelines for the South East European Countries“
Publisher
SNS has been a publisher of the scientific journal Food and Nutrition (Belgrade) since 1960 – (http://www.hrana-ishrana.org/izdavacka-delatnost/casopis-hrana-i-ishrana) with the participation of international experts in the editorial board of the journal and as well as books of congress abstracts.
Partners:
SNS conducts the majority of its activities in co-operation with Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and Serbian Ministry of Health, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and as well as Serbian Medical Society and other scientific institutions in the country.
